Nowadays, nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management are extremely relevant topics in Germany, since the German government made a decision in 2011 to completely abandon nuclear energy generation until the end of 2022. Being the first country in the world to build a nuclear power plant, Russia was one of the first to face similar challenges, therefore its extensive expertise in that area is in high demand internationally.

At the exhibition accompanying the conference, NEOLANT experts shared their unique expertise acquired by active participation in nuclear and radiation facilities decommissioning and radioactive waste management projects for Rosatom. Among other things, they demonstrated the “NPP Units Decommissioning Database” Information System that is being implemented at ten Russian nuclear power plants. This project won the international «Be Inspired 2013» award and was highly appreciated by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

“Cooperation with all Russian nuclear power plants to be decommissioned enabled us to develop an extensive expertise in this field. We believe our expertise to be very useful for decommissioning activities in Germany, considering their quite tight implementation deadline”, –
says Vladislav Tikhonovsky, NEOLANT First Deputy Director General, ideologist and developer of the first Russian “NPP Units Decommissioning Database” Information System.

At the NEOLANT stand, visitors of the exhibition could learn about innovative NEOLANT technologies that find wide application in Russian nuclear industry:

Nuclear and Radiation Facilities Decommissioning:

  • 4D-nD Facility Information Models.
  • Computer-Based Simulators.
